ATTENTION ALL UNION MEMBERS! Looking for union benefits or union insurance?

Beware if you Purchased Life Insurance from a Union Referral!  I can fix this for you -

When you joined your local union did you get an offer for some free life insurance from an outside life insurance company?  Let me guess; you filled out the little postcard they sent with all of your contact information in return for in or around 4k in accidental life insurance. Yes, it was for only accidental. You have to die by accident for it to pay out. There are also stipulations on how the accident happens that can keep your family from cashing in on said life insurance. 

Here is the catch. When you gave them your contact info, did your phone start ringing? Your mailbox started getting inundated with direct mail marketing? Just more paperwork to go into the recycle box for some. Others actually respond. After you responded either by mail or phone, an insurance agent made contact?  Of course you trust them as they are affiliated with your Union in some way. However, that’s not true. The Union just gave them your information so you could get a few thousand dollars in accidental life coverage just like your local Credit Union. 

Accidental Life Insurance policies are an insurance company’s biggest money-maker. Your chances of dying by accident are extremely low. So, they just rake in the dough at your family’s expense.  (Less than 6% of the death population is by accident - and less than 1% are qualified for an accidental death benefit)  I see this all the time. Once I sit down with prospective Union Members, I point out all the inadequacies.  

This is what it looks like: If you die from natural causes the benefit from them is between $10,000 and $25,000. If you die by accident the benefit is between $50,000 and $250,000. If you become dismembered only by an accident there is a small payout as well. Most Union members are too busy making America great to even have the time look at their policy. They just trust the agent of said company.
